My grandmother knew it.
A crusty English muffin smeared with garlic butter, topped with savory meat sauce and melted cheese? Oh MAN, these are good.
I’m currently super obsessed with this, which makes me laugh, because it feels like a 90s Midwestern mom’s peak moment. HERE’S FOR IT!
“Pizza burgers” are a staple of my childhood. My grandmother made them all the time, and every time she came to visit our family, she replenished our freezer stash.
This recipe is like a collaboration between my grandmother and me: she always made them with English muffins and I prefer ground Italian sausage (or turkey or chicken) and brushing everything with garlic butter.
These are my favorites for the end-of-school-year madness right now:
- They are VERY EASY.
- My children love them.
- You can mix in fun toppings (my favorite = pepperoncini).
- And, most importantly: they can be taken out of the freezer and reheated. one at a time – ideal for times when we’re trying to get out to the football or find something to eat quickly between work meetings and we’re simply questioning every life decision that led us to this moment.

While writing this post, I literally ate two of them for lunch. Oh man, very good.
Taken out of the freezer. Air fried for 8 minutes. We drizzle them with a good olive oil (DELICIOUS), cover them with a little kosher salt, and serve them alongside a pile of ultra-crispy cucumbers. It was a moment!
I hope you like them! From my Midwestern grandmother, to me, to all of us.
