Due to the intricate core and layered construction, we’ve included a full video workshop to help you through every step. Our Beauty Peony crepe paper bowl builds gradually, starting with the dense, textured center before expanding outward into larger petals. Each stage adds volume and dimension, creating that characteristic “bowl” effect that gives this variety its name.
Surprisingly, this is the second Bowl of Beauty Peony in this month’s collection. While our felt version is soft and sculptural, perfect for beginners, this crepe paper interpretation offers more of a challenge. In addition, the change in materials gives a lighter and more realistic quality to the petals. For example, crepe paper allows for subtle variations, delicate edges, and a natural softness that mirrors the way real peonies open and move.
Traditionally, peonies symbolize prosperity, romance and honor. The Bowl of Beauty, with its open shape and striking contrast between the center and the petals, adds a sense of abundance and generosity to that symbolism, a flower that feels striking and attractive.
As you progress through the workshop, you will carefully move from one layer to the next, using a combination of tools and techniques to create depth. This is a project that requires patience, but one that rewards you with a bloom that feels luxurious and a strong sense of accomplishment.
