Yesterday, I crossed one item off my bathroom “to do” list and checked off two others. I decided to keep the ceiling white, so I installed the new ceiling light and then painted the vanity.
First, you’ll remember that I had been considering painting the ceiling of this bathroom pink. I made a couple of mockups of that when I only had two of the three rows of stripes on the wall painted.

The main reason I wanted a pink ceiling is because… well, I love the color, and I especially love pink. But I also thought that painting the ceiling a color like pink would make the new white ceiling light stand out more.
But then when I finished all the stripes, I really loved how the walls looked surrounded by white. As I said yesterday, it almost felt like the walls were the work of art and the white surrounding the walls on the ceiling and the molding on top and the wainscoting on the bottom (which will be all white) created the “frame” for the work of art. I thought a pink ceiling might seem like an afterthought and compete with the walls for attention.

So in the end I stayed with the white ceiling. And that meant I could go ahead and install this cute new ceiling light. This is the light I purchased (affiliate link) and I love it! I thought it was cute when I took it out of the box, but I loved it so much more once I installed it on the ceiling! And I really like the look of the white lamp on the white background of the ceiling.

I wish I could have taken a photo of it yesterday with the light off during the brightest part of the day. I took the photo above early this morning and the sun doesn’t come into this bathroom until the afternoon hours. I’ll be sure to get better pictures once this bathroom is finished. But anyway, here’s a look at the device with the light on.

Again, that’s an early morning image, just as the sun was coming up, so the lighting isn’t great. But isn’t it a nice light? Of course I love it! It looks like a flower!
But now it’s time for the decision we were all waiting for him to make. What color did I choose for the vanity? I was really going back and forth on this. At one point, I would be 100% sure I wanted green. The next moment, I was starting to think that eggplant would be better for the wall design. I had both paint colors on hand, and the decision on paint color was really up in the air until the moment I grabbed my brush and headed into the studio to paint the vanity. And at that moment I grabbed the green.

Specifically, I chose this green from the stripes on the wall. This is Sherwin Williams Broccoflower.

Choosing the right green made all the difference in the world. Seeing that previous green, which was a little darker than the back entry wall color, against the striped walls almost soured me on the idea of having an all-green powder room. That color was too faded and dull.

So using the right green really made a big difference. And in the end I think green was the right choice for me. I kept coming back to a comment from someone who said a green dresser would make the room look like a garden, and the colorful stripes are like the flowers in the garden. That’s the comment that sealed the deal and made me stay with green.
Here’s a look at the powder room color with a look at the back entry walls. You can see they are different greens, but I think they look good together. And I’m really glad the back entry walls and powder room aren’t the same color. I like the variation.

Obviously, I’ll get better photos of the entire area once I’ve cleaned everything up. And you can see I have a lot of cleaning to do (and probably some paint touch-ups) on the floor. When I was painting the stripes on the walls, some paint spilled on the floor. I have been absolutely amazed at how durable this floor paint is and in the past I have been able to remove the paint from the floor with a Magic Eraser. So my paint spill here will really test it. We’ll see if I can get that off the floor or if I’ll have to add another coat of paint to the floor to cover it.
Anyway, I’m very excited about the progress. The next step is the wood paneling. I can’t wait to see all that brown wood trim painted with a clean white finish.
