Back to square one (maybe I’ll get these curtains back from eight years ago)

Yesterday, while I was working on organizing the studio, I opened a couple of large cloth bags that I had brought from the sunroom while cleaning that area two weeks ago. And I was so excited to see what was inside one of those bags!

If you’ve been around here a while, you know that our front living room has gone through several iterations since we moved into this house. I had a hard time finding my way around that room and learning exactly what my personal style was (as opposed to what I thought was expected of me as a decor blogger).

I think it took me about five tries before I got to where it is today. And I love where it ended up. I definitely think this room represents my personal style and taste.

So when I opened one of the big bags, I was excited to see that it was filled with one of those fabrics. Out of all the ones I tried in the living room, this particular one was probably my favorite of the ones that didn’t make it into the final version. And I remembered saving it because I liked it so much that I thought I might use it in our future bedroom.

Well, welcome to the future! It’s here! And how fitting that just as work was starting on that room, I opened this bag and found this fabric inside. How many of you remember these curtains?

That was in 2016! I tried to find the name of the fabric, but I couldn’t find it until now. I highly doubt it’s still available. But I loved these curtains. I tried to match them with the dark grey fireplace. Do you remember that?

I also made my own roman shade to match it. And that was when I tried to make the picture frame molding work in that room. It was definitely a mistake to try to put picture frame molding on the walls of a room with so many doors and windows. It looked too busy. But it was fun to try!

That was also when I had the acrylic curtain rods. They were pretty and I really liked them, but they did bend a bit under the weight of the curtains made of decorative fabric and blackout lining.

I really love this fabric, but I don’t like the Greek border anymore. It’s too bright compared to the greens of the fabric. So if I end up using this fabric, the Greek border has to go, as well as the dark blue detail on the border.

But look how beautiful it looks with the grass cloth. It’s perfect! It’s like I bought them to match, but it’s just a happy coincidence.

I know some of you might be wondering what happened to the striped velvet I thought I would use. Unfortunately, it doesn’t pair well with the grass cloth, so I had to choose one or the other. The grass cloth won. There wasn’t even a competition.

In fact, the grass fabric is coming today! It was on sale for 20% off, so I wasted no time in ordering it to take advantage of that savings. You can find the grass fabric here.

Anyway, I think this eight-year-old fabric might serve as a starting point for the room. I’m not really sure how I’ll use it. It looks like I only finished one of the curtain panels, but I cut the fabric for all of them. So I’ll have to see how I can use it. It might be for curtains or a headboard. I might only have enough for two large pillowcases, but I’m about 90% sure I’ll find a use for it.

I feel like I’m starting over from scratch, first with the grasscloth (which I used in our condo’s bedroom over a decade ago) and now with this fabric from our living room from eight years ago. I kind of like it. It’s interesting how my taste and style have remained pretty consistent over years and years, while my taste in other areas (i.e. my growing love of pink) has changed over the years. But I still love this fabric, so it was definitely a happy find!
