At 11am, the King’s Royal Horse Artillery Troop fired a gun from Horse Guards Parade to begin a two-minute silence.
This was followed by a second shot which marked the end of the silence, and the buglers of the Royal Marines Band Service sounded the last post.
The King then laid a wreath at the foot of the Cenotaph, the national war memorial.
The telegraph reports: “Her crown closely resembles one produced for King George VI, with 41 paper poppy petals mounted on an arrangement of black leaves, as is traditional for Sovereign crowns, and adorned with a scarlet ribbon and bow. , purple and gold. The colors of the ribbon and bow are from the King’s racing silk.” After placing his crown, the King salutes.

The veterans had been gathering for hours before their march in front of the monument.

When the former soldiers and women paraded in front of the cenotaph there was applause. The somber moment of reflection was replaced by the crowd’s desire to recognize and celebrate his service.

When the laying of the wreath was over and the Bishop of London gave a short speech, the crowd joined in singing the Lord’s Prayer.
God Save the King played and the royal family sang enthusiastically from the balcony. When that part of the service concluded, the King departed followed by his eldest son and two brothers.
The Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Edinburgh turned to walk back inside, and the Duchess put a hand on the Princesses’ backs as they walked.
There were ceremonies all over the UK. Below you can see the RAF pipes and drums in today’s Remembrance Parade through the streets of Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Duchess of Edinburgh wore a Valentino Draped Cowl Neck dress with a Jane Taylor hat and Garrard earrings, according to no more ufos. The court jeweler reports that she “…wore the insignia of the Royal Irish Regiment. She was appointed colonel-in-chief in August 2023.” Now let’s see what Kate wore to today’s ceremony.
The princess brought a Catherine Walker coat that was first noticed on Remembrance Sunday 2020. You can see that the piece has been updated – the shoulder fringes have been removed and the buttons replaced. A velvet bow has been added to the neck.
You may remember that the coat was worn in September 2022, when the Prince and Princess visited a military training center to thank Commonwealth troops who took part in the late Queen’s State Funeral.
Here you see it used on all three occasions.
The princess wore a new hat today, a piece by Juliette Botterill Millinery, the flower and feather teardrop-shaped hat. As the name suggests, the style features a teardrop-shaped base with feathers and flowers. It looks like the princess added a cage-shaped mourning veil to the design. Carly in Kate Middleton Style reports that the design belongs to the hatmaker’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection.
Thanks also to royal fashion police, as well as no more ufos and Mirelabeleva for her information about the hat.
UPDATE NOVEMBER 12: I forgot to include the gloves the Princess wore on Sunday, the Alice Merino Wool style ($221) by Cornelia James.
The princess carried her Mulberry Bayswater clutch in black suede.
She wore the Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings that belonged to the late Queen. The name reflects the origin of the pearls: they were part of a wedding gift from the ruler of Bahrain to Princess Elizabeth for her wedding.
He also wore the Queen’s Dragoon Guards brooch, a nod to his role as colonel-in-chief of the regiment.
The Princess was appointed to that position in September 2023, and the brooch was presented to her during her visit to the regiment in November 2023. We saw the Princess wearing the brooch for the first time at last year’s Festival of Remembrance.
The brooch was originally created for the Queen Mother in 1959. She served as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment until her death in 2002. Here you see her wearing the brooch in 1985.

For those curious about the number of poppies the princess wore, the following is from a Memories post from a few years ago, but still applies: “There is always speculation about the number of poppies the Duchess wore and the meaning behind them.” is attributed to him. number. Here are theories about that number as detailed in this Funny history:
Some theories suggest that each poppy represents a different branch of the military. Others say that it is easier to see a large group of flowers than a single one. And a third theory speculates that she might use the trio of poppies in honor of her great-grandmother’s three brothers who died during World War I.
More about the poppy tradition through this Imperial War Museum piece.
The poppy is the enduring symbol of remembrance of the First World War. It is strongly linked to Armistice Day (November 11), but the origin of the poppy as a popular symbol of remembrance lies in the landscapes of the First World War.
Poppies were common, especially on the Western Front. They flourished in the soil disturbed by fighting and bombing. The flower provided inspiration to Canadian doctor John McCrae for his poem “On the Fields of Flanders”, which he wrote while serving at Ypres in 1915. It was first published in Punchhaving been rejected by The spectator. In 1918, in response to McCrae’s poem, American humanitarian Moina Michael wrote “And now we carry the Torch and the Red Poppy in honor of our dead…”. He campaigned to make the poppy a symbol of remembrance for those who had died in the war.
The poem.
I leave you with one more photo of the Princess at today’s ceremony.
