Alright, all of you. I’m getting pretty frustrated with finding a rug for our bedroom. I have seen literally hundreds of rugs online, and it is very difficult to look at those little pictures and know how they will actually translate to a 9′ x 12′ rug in a bedroom.
I’m looking for anything that matches my colors: dark teal, green, and orange. So after looking and looking, this one from Boutique Rugs appeared in an ad while I was browsing Instagram and it seemed to have all the right colors.
I really really liked this rug! I put off buying it for a couple of days and kept looking, but came back to this one because it seemed perfect. I couldn’t find anything else that came close, so I decided to try this one.
And while I know many of you expressed that you don’t like that vintage look, I love it. I lived in Turkey and visited quite a few rug shops while I was there, and I loved watching the shopkeepers browsing through their stacks and stacks of old (and also new) Turkish rugs. So I personally love the look, whether it’s a real antique Turkish rug or a new rug (that happens to be made in Turkey) made to look like an antique Turkish rug.
So when I was given the rug and then the curtain fabric (the dark teal velvet), I was excited to lay it all out and see how it looked together. Well, I expected my immediate response to be, “I LOVE IT!!!” That wasn’t my answer. I mean, I don’t hate it, but I have doubts about it.
I used the fabric from my curtains to cover the center medallion since it won’t be seen. And all the colors seem to match very well, although I have to take issue with the fact that this rug is called Green Nisa Vintage and yet you have to look for the green in the rug. It’s there, but I have no idea why “green” is in the name when it’s clearly one of the least represented colors in the entire rug. There is so little that if you don’t look for it, you will miss it.
And all the colors of the headboard fabric are in the rug. I put that fabric in the corner since they won’t be next to each other in the finished room. They will be separated by curtains, bedding and nightstands.
I think one problem is that the rug, in person, has a decidedly more Southwestern feel than in the photos on the website. In fact, in those photos, I don’t get any Southwestern vibes at all, not even in the image with the full view of the entire rug.
But there’s something about this in person that makes me think I might have gotten it in New Mexico instead of Türkiye.
So, I don’t know. I’m tired of looking for rugs. I feel like there is nowhere else to look unless you want to spend over $700 on a rug, which I don’t.
I went back to one of the first ones I bought and it was an immediate no. I mean, just…no. Although all the colors look right, it’s just not a pretty rug (to me).
So I think I’m going to stick with this new one and hope that when everything is in the room, with all the different layers, from the wallpaper, to the wainscoting, to the headboard, to the curtains, to the nightstands, to the clothing of bed, etc., the carpet will not actually be a big protagonist in the room. It will simply add a subtle color to the floor and allow everything else to play a bigger role. At that point, it will be too late to return the rug if I don’t like it. But if it really doesn’t work, maybe I can at least sell it and continue my search. By now, I’m so tired of looking at rugs.
Now, if any of you find the perfect rug and want to send me the link, feel free to do so! I’m always very open to new ideas. But in the meantime, I plan to continue in this direction.
I think the creamy white wainscoting (which I’ll be painting Behr Polar Bear like the rest of the trim in our house) separating the headboard and rug, along with all the other layers separating them, will be a huge help. so that they play better with each other. So, we’ll see how it turns out.
