There’s something special about group Halloween costumes! Dressing up is even more fun when you have friends. Check out all of these group or family Halloween costumes you can make before Halloween.
Some years you have costume ideas coming out of your ears and other years it’s like scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Either way, we’ve rounded up our best ideas for a ton of costumes you can make before Halloween.
Many of these are made entirely from items we had in our closet and others have the DIY touch. But they are all very easy to do and won’t cost you a lot of money or take up hours of your time.
Psst: Before you check out the costumes, be sure to join my VIP group below! I’m sending these folks more of my best Christmas ideas and DIY projects.
Halloween costumes for groups
All of these group Halloween costumes were designed as family costumes for 4 people. But they can be scaled up or down as needed! Check out some of our favorite family Halloween costumes.
Where is the Waldo family costume?
This one, however, is my forever favorite! I love the red stripes and the whole Where’s Waldo family?
It is very easy to assemble, comfortable to use and looks good on all ages. Be a family of Waldos!
DIY Halloween Group Costume // In-N-Out Burger
One of our most popular family Halloween costumes has been an In-N-Out group costume!
The burger, the fries, the In-N-Out servers – it’s whimsical, fun, and totally unexpected.
Disney Group Costumes
Star Wars Family Halloween Costume
You can thank Henry for this one. I wanted to be Luke Skywalker so badso we all accepted it and got into the spirit of Star Wars.
Depending on which version of the characters you choose, you can also get most of this stuff from your own closet!
This tutorial has instructions for Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia, and Baby R2D2.
Peter Pan Family Costume
Maggie was a month old but we still managed to do something together!
Turns out Henry loved Peter Pan and we realized that if Maggie were baby Michael, all she would have to wear would be a pink onesie. Bright.
This one may require a bit of searching for some of the pieces, but we found most of them easily at thrift stores or on Amazon. Check out the post for all the details!
Pinocchio costume for groups or families
This family costume for 4 people was inspired by the Disney classic Pinocchio!
We have tutorials for Pinocchio himself, Geppetto, Jiminy Cricket and the Blue Fairy.
We used a lot of pieces we already had or were looking to find. This one is super fun to make and use!
Wreck-It Ralph Costumes for Halloween
Another great family Halloween costume idea is Wreck-It Ralph! I love how this one really plays with adult versus kid sizing.
If you have a toddler and a larger male adult, the scale is pretty cute.
A fun idea to dress up mom and me
Mommy and Me Costume Idea // Birds of a Feather
Most of our costumes are real people, but I love pun costumes too!
We made this Feathered Birds costume for a mom and baby, but it would work for couples, siblings, or an entire family. Quick, easy and cheap!
Couples costume ideas
Lumberjack costume
Nothing like a pregnant lumberjack, huh? I remember the day we took this photo: I was so pregnant and so uncomfortable! And I had to laugh that my plaid shirt was barely buttoned.
But! Halloween was approaching, so we prepared like lumberjacks. This one is super simple: plaid shirt, jeans, boots and hat.
Fun accessories like fingerless gloves or suspenders (or an axe!) are a plus.
Easy Last Minute Halloween Costumes for Kids
DIY LEGO Halloween Costume
We created this easy LEGO Halloween costume in a pinch when we realized we’d forgotten a costume party!
It takes about an hour and you probably have everything you need to do it in your garage or shed.
astronaut costume
We introduced this little astronaut costume to Maggie when we turned her into Sally Ride, but it’s easy enough for any member of the family to make!
Find some blue overalls and iron on some NASA patches. Bonus points if you bring along small planets or rocket shapes. I love this one for little kids.
Easy Last Minute Halloween Costumes for Adults
Soda Idiot Costume
A white button-down shirt, a paper hat, a little bow tie, and a fake ice cream cone is all you need for this 50s retro costume!
It would be even cuter as a couple or family costume – turn the rest of the family into ice cream cones and one person can be the soda idiot.
DIY Simple Cat Ears
This one’s for all you Mean Girls fans out there: put ears on it and you can be almost anything for Halloween.
Making these little ears takes five minutes and only a couple of dollars (unless you already have the materials in your craft cabinet!).
Throw on a black shirt (or an LBD if you’re going out partying) and you’re good to go. Black cat costume, ready!
Folk singer/hippie costume
I wore this costume when I was pregnant with Henry and it was PERFECT!
If you have a pregnant belly, I think there is nothing better than a folk singer or a hippie. I think it adds an extra touch to the costume (haha!).
This is one of those that you can probably gather in your own closet: pick up every flowy thing you have, pile on the beaded jewelry, and let your hair do its thing.
Musketeer costume
How cute is Ryan in his Musketeer outfit?! (Also, how much better have we gotten at taking pictures since four years ago? Hahaha!) I love this one.
If you have Mickey ears from Disneyland, you’re ready to go. We had this vintage camera which really gave the costume a fun vintage feel.
Otherwise, it’s just the baseball shirt and suspenders that create the look. xoxo
