Custom and inexpensive DIY barn lights

Custom and affordable handmade barn lights

Lighting creates space!

Lighting creates space and always seems to be a deciding factor on budget, too. When decorating my son’s room, I had my eye on some gorgeous Kelly green barn lights from an online store—plus, they were ridiculously priced ($340 each). I was determined to get that look for less.

This is how I did it.

I found some outdoor lights at Lowes for $40 each. The lights were meant to have hardwires, but I didn’t want any permanent wires running through them. So I opted to convert them to plug-in lights after talking to an electrician. Before painting, I drilled a hole in the bottom of the lights with a metal drill bit. I used painter’s tape to cover up the areas I didn’t want to paint. I bought a wiring kit and connected it to the fixed wires on the light. Hanging the light

I used the bracket that came with the light and modified it slightly so I could hang it on my wall and in no time I had two barn lights hanging over my kids’ beds. Custom and affordable handmade barn lights (11) Custom and inexpensive handmade barn lights (10) Custom and affordable barn lights (9)

These cheap, custom DIY barn lights were just what I was waiting for and they didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. You don’t need to pay for something high-end, create your own cheap barn lights! Kara Pothier
