This cottage cheese dip is a delicious high protein snack! Easy to make with 6 ingredients, it’s creamy and spicy. Serve with crackers or vegetables!
I can already tell: this cottage cheese sauce will be repeated in our house this spring. Easy to make in the food processor with just 6 ingredients, it’s creamy and tangy, perfect with crackers and vegetables. Cottage cheese is packed with protein (this dip has 7 grams per serving!) and avocado fills you with healthy fats. Jack and I love it as a snack, but it would also make a crowd-pleasing party appetizer. Its pale green color is so festive for spring!
I’ll be honest: I haven’t loved every cottage cheese recipe I’ve tried since it became trendy a few years ago. Cottage cheese ice cream? Not for me. Cookie dough? No!
But this cottage cheese sauce is incredibly delicious. Mixed with avocado, the cheese takes on a smooth texture similar to Greek yogurt or sour cream, and its tangy flavor pairs perfectly with savory ingredients like garlic and lemon. Top it with fresh herbs and a little bagel seasoning for a healthy snack you won’t be able to get enough of.

How to make cottage cheese sauce
This protein-rich dip recipe starts with 6 simple ingredients:
Ingredients
- Cottage cheese, of course! I recommend using full-fat cottage cheese for a richer flavor, but in a pinch, low-fat cottage cheese works too.
- Avocado – Adds healthy fats and gives the sauce a creamy, fluffy texture.
- Extra virgin olive oil – Helps the sauce mix until it forms a smooth puree.
- Garlic – For a tasty depth of flavor.
- fresh lemon juice – For shine.
- and sea salt – To make all the flavors stand out!
To make the dip, Simply combine these ingredients in a food processor. Blend until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides of the bowl if necessary. Season to taste.
- Advice: Don’t have a food processor? You can also make this recipe in a blender. In that case, mince the garlic before blending to help it incorporate evenly into the sauce.
Recipe variation
Prepare cottage cheese ranch sauce. Inspired by my homemade ranch dressing! Replace fresh garlic with 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/4 teaspoon onion powder. Add 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives and 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill to the sauce.
How to serve cottage cheese sauce
After blending, transfer the whipped cottage cheese sauce to a serving bowl. Garnish with fresh chopped herbs (I like scallions or dill!) and a sprinkle of bagel seasoning (optional, but delicious).
Serve it with whatever you want for dipping. Here are some options I love:
- crispy vegetables such as celery sticks, cucumbers, blanched peas, bell peppers, radishes, or carrots
- crackers
- Pita chips or pita bread
- crostini

How to store
Store this blended cottage cheese sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
The top may darken slightly as the avocado oxidizes, but it will still taste delicious. Just give it a quick stir before serving!
