This newsletter was written yesterday afternoon, so who knows what’s going on now or how anyone is feeling. In case you’re feeling anxious, below are a number of proven ways I can divert my mind from heavier thoughts.
1: Weird things on social media
Like this charming, yet terrifying and strangely inspiring Instagram reel.
2: True Crime Stories
I am law abiding, but if I wasn’t this is the type of crime I would commit. Twenty-two metric tons of cheddar cheese were stolen from Neal’s Yard Dairy, the UK’s historic cheese retailer. There are more than 43,000 batches of Martha Stewart’s macaroni and cheese recipe.
3: make plans
Planning is an immersive and productive experience. – form of distraction. Thanksgiving is just over three weeks away. This year we created a feel-good Thanksgiving section on the site: recipes that won’t make you feel sluggish after leaving the table. A couple of my picks are above.
4: shopping
My default form of distraction and procrastination is shopping.
Our sister brand, Schoolhouse, launched their Christmas catalog offering 20% off orders of $250+ with code BRING THE JOY until 11/15. My favorites:
Food52 gift guides are live and grouped by the recipient’s personality type. I’d like to say I’m in the “dinner party” category, but I’m probably a “hard to buy for” type of person. Sorry friends and family!
5: baking
I like how the process of baking cookies makes you pay attention to measuring them, shaping them, and taking them in and out of the oven. There is no time to worry about anything else. Below are some especially delicious and delicious recipes:
6: Adore my dog
Here is our dog Fiver, who turned 4 last week. I talk to her. She doesn’t understand me, but she pretends to be interested.
See you next week!
