My collection of Christmas decorations is an ever-evolving mix of old and new. While I usually keep a few favorites year after year, I like to update the style with some newer pieces that reflect the latest holiday trends. In recent years, I’ve been leaning toward natural trends in holiday decorations. This often brings late fall colors and themes into the holiday season. Warm oranges and greens, mushroom and woodland ornaments, and even elements of nature itself to decorate with.
Whether you’re updating your holiday decor with a few pieces or starting from scratch, Very is a great place to start. Their seasonal decor is organized into festive themes, so no matter what your personal style is, you’re sure to find something that suits you.
For the star of the show, I chose this absolutely stunning 7ft Sherwood Real Looking Christmas Tree from the huge range of artificial trees on offer. This is a large tree and if you have the space it will be a real showstopper. Very also has a 6ft version as well as a slim tree for smaller spaces. The tree itself is very ornate and made from different styles of branches to give it a really natural look. Be warned though, it took me about 2 hours of fluffing to get all the branches out! But remember before fluffing to get the base in place… trust me! I used this White Washed Willow Round Christmas Tree Skirt to cover the stand. This is one of the largest tree skirts I have seen and it works perfectly with this large tree. The natural willow ties in with our theme and gives a lovely neutral base to work on.
Once the tree was fully assembled and in place, it was time to decorate! As we all know, you put up the lights first, then the garlands. I always add my handmade wooden bead garlands to every tree, but on this big, bushy tree they got a little lost. I decided to make another garland with dried orange slices filling in the spaces between them. I’m so glad I did! The warmth of the oranges pops against the deep green of the tree and it smells amazing every time I walk by. To make the garland, I cut and dried my oranges in the oven on low for 2 hours. Once they cooled, I threaded cotton cord through the oranges and sewed them together to make the garland. I’ll be storing these garlands in zip-lock bags and they’ll keep great for years to come!
Moving on to ornaments, I found this gorgeous pack of 50 enchanted forest Christmas ornaments. Metallic colors mixed together are a huge Christmas trend and these colors easily match the natural theme. These sparkly accents add a touch of glamour to the tree and make it look much more grown up. I also couldn’t resist this sparkly set of 6 large acorn Christmas ornaments along with the equally gorgeous glass pine cone Christmas ornaments. These quirky, oversized accents are a must-have on any tree!
Another trend I’ve seen a lot of in recent years is adding extra branches, flowers and twigs to the tree. Very has a wide range of twigs that you can choose from. My favourite are the amazing soft and fluffy faux fur eucalyptus twigs for Christmas tree. And to finish off the tree, I’ve added these hanging icicle Christmas tree decorations.
But who says ornaments have to stay on the tree? Give your home a festive feel by adding decorative touches wherever possible. Coffee tables, bookshelves, and even the floor can be adorned with holiday treats. If you have small children or pets who like to play with (or, more likely, knock them off) ornaments, this is the solution. Let the dropped ornaments stay on the floor! I’ve decorated the area around the presents under my tree with these large flocked Christmas ornaments, so if some fall, they can sit next to them as if they were there all along.
If you’re decorating bookshelves or coffee tables, I especially love these LED Christmas tree candles that give off a wonderful warmth. They’re made from wax, but they’re battery operated and flameless. I feel much safer leaving them on when the kids are around and I don’t have to worry about replacing them when they burn out. You can also safely place them on any surface and they look fantastic on top of beautiful hardback books.
One of my favorite places to decorate each year is the large shelf under my TV. Since this is the focal point of the room, I love adding and changing the decor here every year. I always wanted to add some little houses or a winter scene to this shelf, so I purchased this
White wooden illuminated village scene Christmas ornament that gives off a very warm glow. My kids love it and I love turning it on when the sun goes down in the early evening. I also added this set of 2 snowflake Christmas ornaments and this bristle tabletop Christmas tree which is a really beautiful and natural take on the classic bottle brush tree. Of course, no holiday decor would be complete without a wreath and garland. The acorn garland and bell and acorn Christmas wreath go together perfectly.
