We are on the move – Ruth Crilly

If you subscribe to my blog posts by email, you might notice something slightly different about the next shipment, which will arrive tomorrow: it is being sent by a new supplier. There is absolutely nothing to worry about because, for you, there are no other changes.

Oh, and besides this (and this is a huge plus, depending on whether you actually enjoy my posts or not), the fact that you will see my emails more frequently and more consistently from now on. Once a week and always on Tuesdays.

Obviously, if you can’t stand receiving my posts via email, this news will devastate you and it is an absolute necessity that you find the unsubscribe button on this post. right now and then click on it. For everyone else, this should all be brilliant, exciting news. Because it is brilliant and exciting: we’re returning to an era of regular blog posts. We’re returning to the days (and title) of A model recommends – Unbiased reviews and slightly unhinged opinions on the world of your favorite former model. Top beauty buys, book recommendations, travel essentials, and all sorts of useful stuff, interspersed with some of the most ridiculous life updates and observations to spill from my fertile mind.

It will feel like we’re in 2013 again, except it will come from a slightly different place.

Before you start panicking about the old days and feeling like everything is being uprooted, I’ll tell you that this website isn’t going away. You’ll still be able to check out the archives, and a lot of the new stuff I post will be here too, but most of my writing will now be on Substack.

Why? Well, we have to get with the times, babe! There’s a whole post about this (the first post in our new home, in fact, and it’s coming to your inbox soon), but, at its core, if you’re creating content in this day and age, then you really need a platform to put it out there. For people to see it. Unless you have a dedicated beauty blog, or post recipes, or stuff that the general public is likely to Google, it’s very hard to get new people to see your content. I mean, how many people are actually going to Google “what does a newt’s penis look like”? (The speculative answer to that particular question is within the comments section.) This post.)

I feel very fortunate to have so many readers here, but a lot of my writing is not the kind that can be easily found on the Internet. It is there to be enjoyed, first and foremost. And it would be wonderful if more people could enjoy it.

I’ve been looking for a writing platform for a while now and I’ve chosen Substack. I find it to be a really nice place, where it’s easy to comment and respond to comments, share other people’s work, and build great communities. You can also leave voice notes, written notes, and video content for your followers and do live video broadcasts – it’s like someone looked inside my brain and designed exactly the platform I’ve always wanted to create and use.

And there’s definitely an appeal for me, as I don’t have to build or maintain any of that platform – I just log in and spend 100% of my time writing stuff, rather than spending half my online life updating website plugins or trying to figure out why the heck comments CAN ONLY BE WRITTEN IN CAPITAL LETTERS.

You’ll see (or you may not – I haven’t fully figured out the setup yet!) that there are a few different ways to use Substack. Some people charge for their content, some charge for everything on there, some have their newsletters available completely free. My new weekly post is completely free. If you’re getting this If you send a post via email, you will be automatically subscribed. I have simply moved my existing subscriber list to the new provider. You don’t need to do anything at all. Well done, congratulations, and look forward to the years ahead!

If you do not wish to receive my future ramblings, please unsubscribe by clicking the link in this email, located at the bottom. If you ever change your mind or hear people whispering about That brilliant model recommends on Substack: “It’s like listening to Lady Whistledown!” So, please find me and re-subscribe. There will also be a huge banner at the top of my website with a link that will take you to my posts, in case you completely miss them.

If you’re not currently subscribed to receive my posts via email (damn, this is getting complicated!), you can subscribe to new weekly posts here.

Okay. This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a big hello. Hello againHello again to the regular posts, more writing, a bit of a return to how things were before short-form content took over the internet and we all developed the attention span of a mosquito. See you next week. A huge, heartfelt thank you to those who have followed me for so many years and accompanied me through so many different blog eras and iterations. This is going to be the best one yet and I couldn’t think of better people to bring with me on this journey.

You will receive your first email from your new home at around 10am BST tomorrow. If you don’t see it, check your spam filter and if you do, is in spam then make sure to mark it as “no”. Until then, my loyal friends!
